I am a fan of the TV program "Ace of Cakes." If you haven't see it, it's essentially a "reality" show set in a bakery. The staff make these exotic and complex cakes week after week. There's no "drama", people don't snipe at one another, no one gets voted off the island.

It's just cool people making cool cakes. I also like it for the same reason I liked Monster Garage and American Choppers. It feeds my creative side.

Anyway, my beef isn't with the show. Or the store. Or the staff. It's their customers.

They require a minimum of $1,000 per cake. Yes, the LEAST you'll pay is a grand. For a cake. Among their customers (who are def paying more than $1K) are organizations celebrating milestones, sports teams, etc. Big cakes for big events.

Then you get the woman who had this cake made (and delivered) for her 21st birthday. Or the parents who have an elaborate pastry for their kids 1st birthday.

These are obviously people with more money than brains. In the case of the 1 year old (who will never remember the moment and will likely never even know who/what 'Ace of Cakes' was), I know it's yuppie parents showing off to their yuppie friends. Pathetic.

But turning 21. That's no big thing. Ooh..you can drink (in the US). Big frickin' deal. I'm sure at 21, you can find much MUCH better ways to spend $1K+ especially in this economy.

Good work to the folks at Charm City Cakes. It's too bad that some of your customers are complete tools.

Strange

I just experienced an odd moment.

My desktop is occupied with a process that, unfortunately, renders the 'net almost unusable. So I have my laptop running for net stuff and the desktop does other stuff (temporarily, I hope).

I was monitoring stuff on both systems (which are essentially side by side) when I noticed I had a mouse in each hand. I'm right handed but I can use a mouse (a little) with my left. After looking back and forth four or five times, I realized I may have fallen into the Matrix.

Again, I have to wonder if I have a problem. At least I got rid of my old comp...or at least moved it to another room.

Fortunately, I'm not this guy but I'm not far off. Altho, I'm not a Wow player. My gf is a World of Warcrafter. Too bad she doesn't make cross-stitches of various WoW creatures/species. Then she'd REALLY be a World of Warcrafter!

I just can't get into it. I like my games (and I've heard WoW described as a game) to have a beginning, a plot/goal and an end. But I'm not much of a "gamer" to begin with so WoW isn't for me.

In site related news, I'm thinking about dumping this blogging platform and moving to Wordpress. Just trying to find a theme I actually like. Not to worry, these vaunted words will be preserved...why, I dunno but they will be archived in some manner.
